Biography

Julia Morag Stirling is a British Senior Barrister and she represents clients in loans and project finance matters globally by assisting business owners and project owners to secure loans from Shambrook Wilson LLP a Law Firm she founded in 1996. Her clients include high-networth individuals, corporate entities, financial institutions, noteholder groups, arrangers, bond issuers, lenders, property investors, alternative capital providers, asset-based lenders, sovereign wealth funds, mezzanine debt funds, and listed property companies. She advises on loan-to-own distressed opportunities, borrowings, new lendings, restructurings such as loan defaults and standstill arrangements, consensual workouts, and enforcement of debt.

Working closely with special situations teams in positions involving debt capital market issues, she provides strategic advise to investors, sellers of loans and mortgage-backed securities, investors owning or acquiring stressed or distressed assets, and risk retention issues.

Julia has spent time in the U.S. and has unique crossover experience in representing clients using power of attorney to leverage client's funds from trust deposits to grant loans to businesses and project owners, selling, and managing CMBS, B notes and mezzanine loans, and private debt funds making real estate loans, both in the U.S., Europe and rest of the world.

Julia has been recognised in Chambers UK since 2010 for her experience in project finance law.

  • Advising clients on loan defaults and restructuring of loan positions including standstill and forbearance agreements globally.

  • Advising clients in restructuring debt and capital market positions globally.

  • Negotiating credit facilities for numerous asset management companies.

  • Advising clients with corporate refinance facilities and new bond refinances and restructuring of global companies involving significant Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) jurisdictions.

  • Advising clients on loan originations involving mixed asset classes of hotels, data centres, supermarkets, business parks, and offices.

  • Providing loans to start-ups and existing businesses and for greenfield and brownfield projects.

  • Advised HSBC on a syndicated £80m refinancing of a large, private equity-backed Care Home Group

  • Advised Blackrock on a leveraged and receivables funding package to Atlas Leisure to fund its £35m management buy-out

  • Advised Mayborn Group on a significant cross-border syndicated refinancing

  • Advised NatWest on senior financing to Citu in relation to its development of the Climate Innovation District in Leeds

  • Advised Octopus Property on development finance facilities to FRT Developments for the development of a residential scheme in Isleworth, west London.

  • Provide funding to Lesbronn Oil and Gas Lithuania for EUR 104 million to expand our oil and gas distribution in the country.

  • Providing client trust account management, and other financial-related transactions
